I used a Megathron and currently still a Raven. My alt is flying amarr ships, so I think I know what I am talking about. Besides I play since more than one year and do regularly PvP,PvE.
The fact that a shield tank can warp away and the armor tank can not is just crap, as you will either have supportships that make sure your target can not warp or need to have such stuff equipped yourself. The argument with the armor repairer taking 12s to start repairing is also bull****, as you don't hit repairing AFTER getting first armor damage, but before. And since you can run an armor repairer or two infinite on an apoc, even with 5 Tachs on, there is simply no point NOT doing it.
If you fit a decent shield tanking setup on a Raven these days, you will fit at least 4 PDUs, 2 Shield hardeners and one XLarge or 1 Large Tech II. The last low slot is now a dmg mod. I personally use 2 Shield Boost Amps to improve Cap effeciency on my Shield Booster. This means with the XLarge I need 4800 Cap/Minute while regenerating almost 8k shields. With the Large Tech II I need 2400Cap/min with regenerating ~5k dmg. My Cap recharge is ~12/s overall (6k Cap, 500s) so maximum will be ~24/s which means 1440/minute. This means EVEN THE LARGE TECH II can not be run infinite.
Now the armortanked Apoc: 2 Large Armor repairers, 2 or 3 armor hardeners run infinite. With Repair Modules skill lv4 (no comparable skill is available for shields, btw!) you need ~11.25s for 1200 Armor/600 Cap. This means more than five repairs per Minute which is 6k dmg repaired and only 3k Cap. Together with overall better resistances of Armor you can repair as much as an XLarge with 2 Shield Boost Amps while using only slightly more cap than an Large Tech II. Make it named Armor repaires you get even better cap effeciency and even more damage repaired. I know there are named Shield Boosters, but no single one is more cap effecient than the Tech II Large, and even this one can not be used infinite.
If you now compare the dmg repaired/cap used without shield amps, the armor tank is ruling. Since Cap rechargers now start from 15% with Tech I and end with 20% Tech II, the advantages are on the armortankers side.
Fact is, the one who is running out of cap dies -> thats the shield tank right now. Fact is, the one who can repair more dmg without running out of cap wins -> also the shield tank right now.
Again: I like the armortanked Megathron as I like the Shieldtankedraven, but regarding tanking the Armor rules right now.
